Volkswagen has teased its next-gen electric hatch, with a series of concept images. The ID.3 will reach the UK in mid-2020 and be capable of covering 205 – 341 miles on a single charge. Prices will start in region of £26,000.

Volkswagen’s new range of ID models will span everything from city car to camper van, with the Golf-sized ID.3 fitting in the middle of the all-electric line-up.

Buyers get three battery options, with the cheapest model getting a 45kWh unit and a list price that will start just shy of £26,000 and provide 205 miles on a single charge. The mid-spec ID.3 gets a 58kwh battery and covers up to 260 miles, while the most powerful (and most expensive at £40,000+) will be powered by a 77kWh battery and reach up to 341 miles on a single charge.

There are no details about charging times, but Volkswagen's promising a “high performance” home wall box with two different charging performances.

Pre-orders start in September, when the production ready ID.3 will be unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show, with Volkswagen asking for a registration deposit of £750. Standard equipment is expected to be high with all models getting Matrix LED headlights, touchscreen infotainment and adaptive cruise control.
