Corsa engine emissions light

My engine emissions light has just come on on my Corsa 1.4 SRI and the car has shut off when slowing down three times since the light came on.

Other than that there have been no other problems that I can tell. I put a code reader on it which told me it was a P0420 problem although I've been told it could be another problem not associated to that code. I've been told it could be the lambda, catalytic converter or crankshaft sensors among others. I can't afford to trial and error repairs so any info would be much appreciated.

Well fault code P0420 is indicating that either
1. The Cat converter is u/s or
2. The HO2S 2 (heated oxygen ) sensor is faulty or wiring fault.

Therefore would suggest that you get the sensor and wiring checked first, if ok then the code would indicate the cat is u/s
