What's the best car for towing a horse trailer?

I am looking for a 4x4 with good suspension (for off road/bumpy unmade roads), to tow a horse trailer - approx 2300kg weight gross (including two horses). It will also double up as family car, so it must be economical. What do you recommend I buy?

driving to France etc., so must be comfy for long journeys.. And trying to find the most economical type out there.. I realise I need pulling power so your advice greatly appreciated!

I'd go for a KIA Sorento 2.2 KX2 manual. The latest Sportage 2.0 manual can now tug 2200kg, but that's 100kg below your limit. The Disco and Touareg can each haul 3500kg, but they won't do 40mpg cruising at 70mph, which the Sorento KX2 will do (because I've done it).
