The new Kuga will be available as a plug-in hybrid, conventional hybrid or mild hybrid model, as well as with 'normal' 2.0-litre diesel and 1.5-litre petrol and diesel engines.

A rival to the Toyota RAV4 and Honda CR-V, the new Kuga will feature more technology including an eight-inch SYNC 3 infotainment system and 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster. There's added driver assistance tech, too, including a new Stop & Go adaptive cruise control system with lane-centring technology.

Longer and wider than the current model, the Kuga offers more room inside for front and rear passengers. Despite being lower, it also has more headroom than before - while rear passengers can have heated outer seats for the first time. The rear seats can be moved backwards for extra legroom, or forwards to increase boot capacity.

In typical Ford fashion, the 2020 Kuga will be available in a range of trim levels to suit every buyer - including Vignale, ST-Line and Titanium variants. The posh Vignale will come with various chrome highlights, 18-inch wheels as standard (19- and 20-inch alloys also available) and premium velour floor mats.

The ST-Line, meanwhile, has a large rear spoiler, 18- or 19-inch alloy wheels and a twin sports exhaust. Inside, ST-Line seats feature red stitching, while alloy pedals and a flat-bottomed steering wheel add to the sporty feel.

For the first time on a Kuga, the new model will be available with selectable drive modes. Alongside Normal, Sport and Eco modes, Slippery mode offers drivers increased confidence on surfaces with reduced grip such as snow and ice. Deep Snow/Sand mode helps maintain vehicle momentum on soft surfaces.

With a towing capacity of up to 2250kg, the new Kuga is likely to be popular with caravanners. A electrically operated retractable tow bar can be controlled using a button in the boot space.

Prices are yet to be announced, but the new Kuga to start at around £24,000 when it goes on sale early in 2020.
