Brilliant to drive, poor on economy

I've had 2 picantos and this Rio so far. It's a brilliant vehicle; responsive, great sound, roomy, fantastic infotainment and well speced out. The only issue is the economy. I'm getting 38 - 42 MPG in my area around the countryside and I'm constantly at the pump (I'm also rather light footed too). I'm now moving on to the now discontinued 1.4 Diesel, which through my testdrives has seen nearly 54 - 63 MPG. Something I didn't realise when I brought the 1.0 Turbo was that you either get the economy of the 1.0 or the boost of the turbo; Not both. Place your foot a centimetre too far on the pedal and your down to 34 MPG. Seriously gets bogged down with more than 2 adults in the car. Again, It's a brilliant car, but the economy for me wasn't great. Thoroughly recommend the Diesel though if you can find one. Apparently they are relatively rare as they were only made for one year.
