Lonsdale was a marque of convenience created by Mitsubishi for the UK market. The new company was set-up to sell Australian-built Mitsubishi Sigmas in in order to circumvent the 'gentleman's agreement; between Japan and the UK to cap sales of cars from that country to 11 per cent of the market.
